Why did you get involved with Foundation Derbyshire?
Since April 1967, Derby has looked after me and I want to now try to get involved with local projects and help those who, through no fault of their own have been disadvantaged in Derbyshire.
What do you get out of being a Trustee?
Becoming a Trustee for Foundation Derbyshire allows me to get involved with trying to ensure money left by philanthropists is used in a great way to help those who need a helping hand in Derbyshire.
Profile
I was born in a small village in Punjab, India.
My father came to work in Derby to try and improve his family’s fortunes when I was only 3 years old.
Fast Forward another 3 years later and I travelled with my mother and sisters to join him and settle down to live in the 60s living near the Baseball Ground at the time when Brian Clough came to manage Derby County.
I grew up with what seemed to me at the time very generous hand me downs from our next-door neighbour and his extended family who took pity on us.
That has stayed with me throughout my working life as I worked my way from a Trainee Storekeeper for a Tool Distributor to a Sales Representative for a Paint Distribution firm and then a Financial Planner for one of the largest providers of Financial Services in the UK.
