Special Friends is a fantastic voluntary group, based in Belper, supporting families and carers whose children have additional needs and disabilities.
They were awarded £919 from our Freemasons Fund.
Well, Special Friends owe a HUGE thank you to Foundation Derbyshire for their wonderful help in obtaining funding for our very special group. Thanks to them, we have been awarded funds by the Freemasons.
Their generous support will enable us to purchase specialist toys (which should be with us ready for our next playgroup), and to hold events for all the family, ensuring that Dads, partners and siblings are supported too, something that often gets overlooked. The funding you have helped us to secure means everything to our group and the families that we support.
We are run by parents with crazy lives and very little time so the help with applications and the proactive approach you have to source suitable funds is invaluable to us.
After the first sensory party the group received some fantastic feedback:
‘Thank you for a lovely party .. it was good to see some Daddies chatting and all the kiddies did well too. I don’t know where I would be without Special Friends… the support here cannot be measured.’
I can say hand on heart if this group wasn’t here I would be back in a deep cocktail of depression/grieving/denial and can say I know now I won’t get in that place again as there is always someone on the end of the phone, on here or free for a coffee to offload to. Thanks go out to every one part of the SF family…
What a wonderful group to be a part of, well done everyone for being awesome, high-fives all around!!!
It really was a lovely day. I can honestly say that I have met some special/friends for life friends. Great bunch of people. X

We wish them every success as they go into their second year.
