The Friends of White Hall Centre Story

Last year our Derbyshire High Sheriff Fund provided a grant to purchase two new Kite harnesses.

A Kite harness allows young people who are wheelchair dependent or have limited mobility to participate in certain roped activities at the White Hall activity centre.  The centre is keen to be as accessible as possible, and this grant has really opened up what they can provide to the thousands of people that pass through this iconic spot in the peak district every year.

Kite harnesses provide a back rest and special attachment points which hold participants into an upright position. Another key benefit is that kite harnesses are far more comfortable than a standard harness.  This is a particular concern for people with limited feeling or movement in their legs.

The addition of the Kite harness means the centre can offer greater opportunities to children and young people with a physical disability – ensuring they can enjoy and benefit from all the centre offers.

White Hall is an environment which can provide a sense of freedom, independence and a chance to experience brand new opportunities – pushing comfort zones and testing limits – all in a safe, encouraging space.
